The Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat Observatory is the Midwest’s most recent bird observatory, located in Ozaukee County, WI. It has been incorporated as a non-profit organization with a Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Committee. We are continuing to solicit partners, sponsors, and donors. The headquarters are in the former Squires Golf Clubhouse located on the Forest Beach Migratory Preserve in northeastern Ozaukee County.

Our Mission: To advance the conservation of birds and bats in Wisconsin and throughout the Western Great Lakes Region through coordinated research, monitoring, and education.

Our Vision: Throughout the Western Great Lakes Region, knowledge of birds and bats is widespread, decisions affecting them are based on good science, and citizens care about conservation and participate in it, so common species are kept common and imperiled populations are restored.

While our initial geographical focus has been on Wisconsin, expansion of our work has already occurred, into Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois.

Grants for funding bird and bat monitoring and educational projects have been awarded since 2010.
