The Wisconsin Society for Ornithology (WSO) helps to coordinate more than 100 Christmas Bird Count circles in Wisconsin. Each count covers an area in a 15-mile-diameter-circle. This year’s count will take place from Dec 14 to January 4.
"In order to provide more useful results from CBCs, the National Audubon Society implemented uniform standards beginning in the late 1950s. This methodology is still in use today."(Patuxent https://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/ birds/cbc.html).
As reported on Wisconsin Birding Network, December 21 "Carl Schwartz and Bill Mueller found a Brown Thrasher, 2 Eurasian Collared-Doves, 194 Snow Buntings, 131 Lapland Longspurs, and 850 juncos in Area 1 of the Randolph CBC today - juncos everywhere! (among a total of 31 species in Area 1)."
