On March 17, 2016, Carl Schwartz, chairman of the WGLBBO Board of Directors, was honored with a Public Awareness award from Partners in Flight Award for all that he has done for conservation, research, education, and birding. The Partners in Flight award, handed out annually since 1996:

"Recognizes exceptional contributions to the field of landbird conservation. Nominees who have furthered the goal of protecting migratory and resident landbirds and their habitats will be evaluated for their effective public awareness activities, innovative leadership, insightful ecological investigation, or sound land stewardship."

Carl is intimately involved with WGLBBO, Bird City Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Bird Conservation Initiative, the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology, The Badger Birder, the Great Wisconsin Birdathon, the Wisconsin Breeding Bird Atlas, the Noel J. Cutright Bird Club, and the Friends of the Cedarburg Bog, to name a few. Carl is remarkable in that he does not merely assist these groups, but gives an incredible amount of time to each, serving on their boards, steering committees, sub committees, and other decision making and planning teams. Carl also has a widely-recognized knack for getting things done ... and I know I speak for the Observatory when I say “Thank you for everything you do Carl!”
