2019 Summit

The 2019 Conservation Summit will be held on Nov. 1-2 at Forest Beach Migratory Preserve. Please check back for details in mid-summer.

The Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat Observatory is accepting registrations now for the second annual Southeastern Wisconsin Conservation Summit to be held at Forest Beach Migratory Preserve in Ozaukee County on Nov. 1-2. Registration is $35 a day, or $60 for two days, and can be completed on the form below. Students must register, but due to generous sponsors, their registration fees are waived. Registration includes morning coffee, lunch and afternoon snacks.  SWCS Slide 330x248

The conference is designed to foster regional collaboration and networking by providing an opportunity to meet and listen to the people who are conducting terrific work here in southeastern Wisconsin.

The two-day summit will include more than 40 speakers and focus on all topics environmental: past, current, and future research and monitoring, conservation advocacy, and ecological restoration being conducted in southeastern Wisconsin by diverse actors: area faculty and undergraduate and graduate students; staff members of nonprofit organizations, land trusts, nature centers, and county governments; landowners; consultants; and many other interested parties.

Among the speakers are representatives from multiple local government agencies, Bird City Wisconsin, the American Bird Conservancy, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Nature Conservancy. Topics on the agenda may include such topics as orchid conservation, Phragmites control, stream bank and bluff erosion, Kirtland's Warbler recovery efforts, deer population monitoring, toxic algae in the Juneau Park Lagoon, citizen-based monitoring of Rusty Patch Bumblebees and other wildlife, invasive plant species control, bird banding, Great Lakes shoreline conservation, bird collisions and urban architecture, the Monarch Collaborative and conservation politics.

Speakers will have 15 minutes for presentations grouped by theme into sessions that will allow time for questions from the audience. Posters will be displayed throughout both days of the conference, with a 90-minute poster session Friday afternoon during which authors can discuss their work.
